The Hourglass

06.05.2023

Across the room and in my mind
A shrouded hourglass reminds
Us of our fate.

How odd to be human and to be aware
Of death's dogged pursuit and stare
For the entirety of our short life.

But it is not entirely a call for despair,
For the finitude demands that we take care
Of these precious few and fleeting weeks.

And to embrace the fleeting finitude
With boldness, appreciation, and gratitude
For this is a small and rare gift.

The grains in the hourglass trickle
But their pace is fickle
While the shrouded top hides their remains.

Memento Mori.
Amor Fati.
